A tragedy struck a west Harris County neighborhood on Tuesday morning when a shooting left one young male dead. As reported by FOX 26 Houston, the incident occurred in the 5800 block of Brenwood Trails Lane, near the end of the street behind Cypress Lakes High School. While the shooting did not take place on school grounds, the proximity caused a ripple effect of concern throughout the community.
Following the fatal event, three schools within the Cy-Fair ISD—Cypress Lakes High School, McFee Elementary School, and Emery Elementary School—were put into a precautionary "secure the building mode" according to the district. Witnesses reported seeing a group gathering at the site before the shooting, but details on the motive and the identity of the suspect or suspects remain unclear. The deceased has been identified as a male in his late teens or early 20s. Investigators are scouring the scene for evidence that can piece together the moments leading up to the shooting, according to FOX 26 Houston.
