A puppy is on the road to recovery after being brutally attacked by a pack of dogs in the backyard of a Hollywood home. The young canine was found wounded along the 1500 block of Coolidge Street and is now under the care of VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital.
The attack was reported to authorities by a concerned neighbor and subsequently captured on camera, illustrating the severity of the dog's injuries. Initially, the owner of the puppy, who is facing eviction, assured police that he would seek veterinarian aid for the injured animal. Yet, upon a follow-up visit two days later, the officer found the owner missing and the dog untreated, as Local 10 News reported.
As a result, the puppy was transported to the animal hospital by the authorities, and the owner was slapped with code enforcement violations for failing to provide adequate medical care and a lack of rabies vaccination proof. Meanwhile, detectives are considering criminal charges, and the city has stepped in with a petition to entrust the puppy to the care of Paws2Care Coalition, Inc., a rescue organization.
In an attempt to deflect responsibility, the dog's owner claimed in an email to Local 10 News that he was not present during the incident. He blamed the neighbors for their passivity, stating they "could have stopped the attack instead of calling the police." Despite these allegations, police have yet to file charges, but the investigation remains active, according to SpotOnFlorida.
The Paws2Care Coalition Inc. seeks public donations to offset veterinary costs incurred during the puppy's recovery. Those interested in contributing to the cause of the young survivor can reach out to the organization directly.
