The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is making a splash by opening up three new river access sites for public fishing and paddling on the Brazos and Colorado rivers, in a move poised to reel in outdoor enthusiasts from all around. The River Access and Conservation Area (RACA) program has been the driving force behind these additions, which aim to cast a wider net of inclusivity for the community's avid anglers and paddlers.
The latest gains are primarily located upstream of Lake Granbury in Parker County and near the city of Bastrop off FM 969. John Botros, the TPWD river access coordinator, was eager to note that the new sites were an essential step to begin to address the historically limited recreation opportunities. "Historically in Texas, recreation on rivers has been limited by a lack of quality public access," Botros expressed, as reported by TPWD.
Fishermen and paddle sports aficionados will find the Fuller’s Folly River Ranch, situated approximately 45 minutes from Fort Worth, a prime spot to start a 4.1-mile journey downstream to Sandy Bottoms River Company. Those casting their lines here might snag largemouth, spotted, or white bass, alongside channel catfish and sunfish that thrive in these rippling waters. TPWD has managed to work in fragrant harmony with local partners, as revealed, to ensure these sites come fully equipped with complimentary parking and the essential amenities to guarantee a seamless launch into nature's embrace, as per TPWD.
