Houston authorities are delving into a deadly mishap that occurred on the South Freeway's service road last week, claiming the life of a 45-year-old woman. As per the City of Houston's official news release, the incident, which took place around 1:20 a.m. on December 15 at the 13400 block of South Highway 288, resulting in the pedestrian succumbing to her injuries on Monday at Ben Taub General Hospital.
Reportedly, the woman was walking northbound on the roadway when, at the mentioned time, she was struck by the northbound white Dodge Charger. Struggling with fate, the woman's identity remains unverified as investigations continue by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The 26-year-old female driver of the Charger was found to be sober at the scene and, after questioning, was released. Houston Police Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer D. Thompson, leading the inquiry into the collision, have yet to determine the full circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Houston Fire Department paramedics rendered emergency services, swiftly transporting the pedestrian while fighting against the clock to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The investigation by HPD continues as details about the incident evolve.
