A woman is fighting for her life after being shot late Monday night outside a home in Houston. The 23-year-old, whose identity has not been released, was gunned down at around 11:20 p.m. at 6318 Thrush Drive, according to the Houston Police Department.

She was discovered by responding officers from the HPD patrol suffering from a gunshot wound. First responders rushed her to a local hospital, where she remains in a condition expected to survive her injuries.

"The victim was shot by an unknown suspect," stated Detective Z. Brumley of the HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division, in the information obtained by City of Houston News. After the shooting, the wounded woman managed to seek help from a neighbor, who immediately dialed 9-1-1.

Investigators are in the dark regarding the motive behind the attack and the identity of the shooter is yet to be determined. Houston authorities are now appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the perpetrator's capture.
