A 37-year-old woman has been taken into custody and faces capital murder charges in connection with a fatal stabbing incident in Houston, according to authorities. The stabbing claimed the life of 17-year-old Kayla Stevenson on a sidewalk at 5100 West Alabama Street last Saturday morning.
The accused, Kaysone Sky Blossom, was arrested Wednesday after officers were brought to the disturbing scene by local citizens, the Houston Police Department revealed. Stevenson was found by officers; she was unresponsive and had suffered multiple stab wounds. The woman was pronounced dead shortly after by paramedics.
In a statement obtained by the Houston Police Department, Sergeant B. Roberts and Detective L. Lange reported that Stevenson, the young woman, was walking to work when she was assaulted and stabbed several times. A description of the suspect, an Asian female dressed in black clothing and riding a blue "cruiser style" bicycle, was provided by witnesses to the gruesome attack.
Following up on community tips and diligent police work, Blossom was identified as the suspect. HPD's SWAT team, sent to Blossom's residence on Beechnut Street, executed the arrest without incident. Blossom now faces the justice system, booked into the Harris County Jail, as the community and Stevenson's loved ones reel from the tragic event.
