In an unusual turn of events this holiday season, Hutto, Texas residents are facing an unexpected threat to their festive decorations. Hutto police have issued a public service announcement cautioning the community about local cottontail rabbits biting through Christmas light strands. According to authorities, these native bunnies, typically known for their timid nature, have embarked on what has been described as "rampant crime sprees," according to Hutto Police Department.
The vandalism, characterized by severed light strands, has been misattributed to area youth, but the police are keen to correct the record. "They commit seemingly random acts of vandalism while besmirching the reputation of our local youth," the department said on Facebook.
While some may be quick to dismiss these incidents as trivial, the Hutto Police Department is taking the matter seriously. In their efforts to provide clarity, they’ve affirmed that the actual culprits look "a lot more like Bugs Bunny than your neighborhood kids," as per the Hutto Police Department.
Hutto, normally celebrated for its iconic hippos, is now grappling with the reality that the city's native wildlife is disrupting holiday cheer. "If your light strands look like they have been cut clean through, the primary suspect is and generally will look a lot more like Bugs Bunny than your neighborhood kids," stated CBS Austin.
