A sweeping burglary probe turned into a major drug bust in Indio, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported. The arrest of four individuals, including the seizure of drugs and a firearm, happened when deputies served a search warrant relating to a stolen golf cart case from November.
The law enforcement operation took place on the 82000 block of Indio Boulevard, following the theft of a golf cart in La Quinta last month. As deputies dug through the premises, they uncovered a trove of illicit goods: over a quarter-pound of suspected methamphetamine, 22 suspected fentanyl pills, and various items linked to drug sales. Amidst the contraband, a loaded Springfield 9mm handgun was found in the hands of one suspect, setting the stage for multiple arrests.
In the aftermath, Lydia Ruiz, 39, faces numerous charges, including burglary, vehicle theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, and probation violation. Erick Maldonado, 29, was booked for possession of narcotics, a loaded firearm, and other firearm-related felony charges. Joining them, Brandon White, also 29, got tagged for drug sales, while Mestisa Labuen, 33, got nabbed on an outstanding felony conspiracy warrant.
Authorities believe there may be more to uncover in this case, counting on public input to tighten the screws on local crime. "Anyone with information on this crime is encouraged to call Deputy Martin at the Thermal Sheriff's Station," stated the Riverside County Sheriff's Department in an official release.
