In an effort to put the brakes on car thefts, Hyundai owners are getting a key assist from the LAPD this weekend. Coppers from Van Nuys Community Police Station are teaming up with Keyes Hyundai to run an anti-theft software update clinic, tackling a wave of thefts that have been plaguing owners of newer Hyundai models.
The free clinic, set for Sunday, December 10, is a direct response to the rise of vehicle theft techniques that have gone viral on social media—cars can be stolen in the blink of an eye. Despite a security fix rolling out in February, many Hyundai vehicles are still on the roads with outdated protection, Hyundai and LAPD reported, leaving them vulnerable to these high-tech hijackers.
Car owners can drive up to the Keyes Hyundai dealership at 5746 Van Nuys Boulevard between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., with no need for an appointment. The upgrade process is quick and painless, taking about 20 minutes per vehicle, according to the LAPD Newsroom. All without the owners having to spend a dime.
"Although this software upgrade has been available since February 2023, the majority of affected vehicles have not been updated, leaving them susceptible to being stolen," outlined the LAPD Newsroom. To see if your ride qualifies for the upgrade, check out www.HyundaiAntiTheft.com or ring up Keyes Hyundai at 888-454-0419 for the lowdown.
Hyundai is reaching out, doing its part to fight the good fight against crime, and the LAPD is lending its badge to the cause.
