The resident, who encountered the suspects decked out in dark outfits, hoodies, and masks, defended his life with a handgun, striking one of them with bullets. The confrontation sent the remaining duo scurrying from the house, leaving behind their get-away vehicle, a black BMW sedan, in their haste. In a statement issued by the LAPD, the frightened victim said he had "chased the remaining two suspects out of the house".
The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were dispatched to the scene, where they pronounced the wounded suspect dead. The LAPD's Operations Valley Bureau Homicide unit took up the case as the coroner's office commenced an investigation of the deceased, who was found with the victim’s property and two gunshot wounds. LAPD detectives know who the deceased suspect is but are waiting to tell their family.
Meanwhile, the survivor of the harrowing encounter was interviewed by authorities at Devonshire Community Police Station and subsequently released. The search for the fugitive suspects is ongoing, with detectives appealing to the public for assistance.
