The LAPD and Los Angeles Recreation and Parks are teaming up to spread some holiday cheer in Pacoima this Sunday with a toy giveaway event aimed at bolstering community ties. Set for December 17th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., David Gonzales Recreation Park will serve as the venue where families can come to receive a bit of yuletide joy in the form of toys for the kids.
The community-focused event, which is part of a broader effort to positively engage with locals during challenging economic times, will feature LAPD Community Safety Partnership Officers and the LAPD Baseball Team. The officers are set to quickly connect with community members and stakeholders, sharing not just gifts but moments of camaraderie. There's also a media session scheduled earlier on the day of the event at 7 a.m. with the event organizers for outlets looking to capture the setup and distribution process.
Officer Michael Scott, who has been orchestrating large-scale community events since 2001, is taking particular pride in this endeavor. "There’s a lot of need, but a lot of good, humble residents that will benefit from a little support for their children and families during these difficult economic times," Scott said in a statement obtained by the LAPD Newsroom. Growing up in Pacoima himself, Scott has a personal stake in the well-being of the community.
