The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department warned residents recently about the potential risks posed by discarded packaging of their holiday hauls. According to a Facebook post by the department, opportunistic burglars may scout through your trash to spot signs of recent purchases, and this could turn your home into their next target.
"Be cautious about the information you give away, even inadvertently. Leaving boxes from recent purchases or gifts out with the trash is advertising what's inside your home", L.A. County Sheriff's Department said on its Facebook post, warning residents to be extra cautious and reminding them to break down boxes and conceal them so that they're not easily identifiable.
