A Lowell man's heist has landed him behind bars after authorities say he played stickup artist at a Tewksbury convenience store— waving what turned out to be a phony gun— before being collared in a dramatic early-morning SWAT raid. The 20-year-old Domenic Myers Yancy is accused of grandstanding with a replica firearm during the Nov. 19 robbery of Andy's Variety on Woburn Street, where he allegedly played a game of cops and robbers for real, snatching both cash and cigarettes before beating a hasty retreat into the nearby woods, according to CBS News Boston.
Tewksbury detectives analyzed surveillance footage from Andy's Convenience that detailed the event, including the perp brandishing a weapon that had all the makings of a Tec9-style firearm, and Yancy making like a bat out of hell across Woburn Street, as per WCVB reports. A search warrant was subsequently executed by the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team.
The caper came to a close when the SWAT team arrived on Commonwealth Ave. residence in Lowell, where Yancy was taken into custody. It was later found by the police that the gun in question was a look-alike, a replica. The Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus calling on NEMLEC's finest to quarterback the arrest of Yancy due to the initial belief that a firearm had been used in the robbery.
