A Malden high school senior's life was cut short in a devastating car crash on North Liberty Street in Middleton Wednesday night, announced Northeast Metro Tech Superintendent David DiBarri. The teen was one of four involved in an accident where their pickup truck hit multiple trees and rolled onto its roof, according to reports from WHDH.
The Massachusetts State Police attributed the crash to the driver's inability to handle a curve in the road, leading to the loss of control, and authorities reported that the vehicle ended up in heavy woods, resulting in one fatality and at least one other individual with life-threatening injuries the investigation into the crash is still ongoing, conducted by the Middleton Police with support from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section. DiBarri confirmed the tragic incident the next morning, and although the student’s name was not released, he earlier expressed the school's deep sorrow over the loss in a release.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our students," Superintendent DiBarri was quoted as saying in a statement obtained by MassLive. He emphasized the school's readiness to support the community, stating, "We will have the necessary resources available for our community as they navigate this difficult time."
In the wake of the tragedy, Northeast Metro Tech has made grief counseling and assistance services available on campus to help students and staff cope with their loss. The superintendent encouraged everyone affected to utilize these resources, acknowledging that "emotions and grief come in all forms." Wakefield Technical High School, he stated, stands ready to aid its community in this period of mourning.
