
Chaos erupted on a Red Line train in Uptown, Chicago, Thursday morning when a man fell victim to a violent robbery attempt that left him wounded by a baseball bat. The unexpected assault happened at approximately 7:20 a.m., as the 54-year-old man was on his daily commute.
Authorities say the assailant demanded personal items from the man, subsequently unleashing a strike with a baseball bat when his demands were not met. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that the wounded man managed to exit the train near the 1100 block of West Wilson Avenue, thereafter finding his way to Weiss Memorial Hospital, where doctors stabilized his condition.
The perpetrator, who remained on the train, has eluded capture as no arrests have been made. Escaping after the attack, the authorities are now scouring for leads. CBS Chicago noted that Area Three detectives have taken up the investigation.
