Miami Animal Services has the perfect solution just in time for the holidays. Throughout December, Miami-dwellers have the chance to adopt a pet and have the usual fees waived, a move aimed at spreading some cheer and securing forever homes for many animals in need. This "Home for the Holidays" campaign has waived adoption fees for pets over four months of age until the end of the month, as reported by Miami-Dade County's official news release.
Potential pet parents should remember that while the adoption fee is waived, there is still a $30 license fee for dogs. Despite this minor cost, adoptees will receive a comprehensive package with their new companion, including the first set of age-appropriate vaccines, a microchip, deworming, and spay/neuter surgery. The Pet Adoption and Protection Center, ready to welcome visitors, operates Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The waived adoption fees are not just limited to the main center. Several satellite adoption centers across Miami are also taking part in this festive initiative. These include Petco locations in South Miami, West Kendall, South Dade, Homestead, and Doral, as well as select PetSmart stores, such as Flagler and Dadeland. They have a range of cats and dogs waiting for a place to call home. Adoption hours at these satellite centers vary, typically ranging from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and slightly reduced hours on Sundays.
However, it's important to note that this waived fee opportunity does not apply to the youngest members of your potential fur family. Puppies and kittens under four months old have separate adoption fees—$85 for puppies, $35 for kittens. But for those looking to adopt an older pet, December is an ideal time to visit one of the participating locations and potentially find a new four-legged friend.
