A 67-year-old Miami construction worker has succumbed to his injuries five days after a hit-and-run incident in West Palm Beach, local authorities reported. Louis Vixon, who was working in a coned-off area of a construction zone, was struck by a dark-colored car in the early hours of December 21 at the intersection of North Congress Avenue and Executive Center Drive, as per police statements.
The vehicle involved fled the scene, leaving Vixon with severe injuries that required extensive surgery at St. Mary's Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Vixon was declared brain dead on Christmas Eve and passed away the following morning, according to information obtained by WPTV.
Investigators are actively searching for the hit-and-run driver, specifically a dark passenger car that should have visible damage from the crash. The West Palm Beach Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit is handling the ongoing investigation. They urge anyone with knowledge of the car or the accident to contact traffic homicide investigator Mark Hatfield, or to anonymously reach out to Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County, according to Local 10 News.
The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office has conducted an autopsy to determine the precise cause and manner of Vixon's death, but the results are pending.
