Firefighters in Miami-Dade County are not just fighting flames; they're also igniting joy for local children in need. This past Saturday, the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) joined forces with Metro-Dade Firefighters Local 1403 and Camillus House to successfully launch a holiday toy drive at a Walmart Supercenter in Doral. The "Shop, Drop & Roll with a Firefighter" event was a festive initiative where firefighters volunteered to help families experiencing financial hardships pick out toys for their children, as reported by a recent press announcement.

The event was a local answer to the greater call of community and compassion, where donations of new, unwrapped toys were welcomed on site to brighten the holiday season for many. It reflected a deeper bond—one that firefighters often foster to quicker approach the call to service. Beyond the weekend's festivities, those interested can still contribute to the holiday cheer, as MDFR stations are set to continue accepting toy donations through December 25. A list of fire station locations can be found on the MDFR website.

The support for this event extended beyond the fire department to the corporate realm, where Walmart generously contributed $5,000 to the Dade County Association of Firefighter Charities, Inc. This significant donation underscores the role businesses can play in local philanthropy and communal welfare. "The families we serve through our Homeless Prevention Program struggle to keep the lights on and a roof over their heads, so to have MDFR and Metro-Dade Firefighters Local 1403 bring joy to the faces of children in families who are facing eviction is a beautiful act of kindness,” as per Camillus House CEO Hilda M. Fernandez.

Those wishing to witness the ongoing generosity can still mark their calendars as the opportunity to give extends through Christmas. The MDFR's Media and Public Relations Bureau stands by to assist donors, and for more details, they can be reached at 305-814-8051.
