Miamians might want to dig through their closets for that seldom-used winter wear as a cold front sweeps through South Florida, bringing with it a chill that's set the locals reaching for extra layers. According to CBS News Miami, the high is expected to hover in the low 70s today with temperatures predicted to plummet further tomorrow. "It is feeling a little more like December and winter in South Florida," CBS News Miami meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez stated, prepping residents for turtleneck weather as lows drop to the upper 50s and low 60s overnight.
While the region is bracing for cooler conditions, frost warnings are on tap further north. Late Wednesday and early Thursday could see the mercury drop to the 30s around Tallahassee and low-40s in areas like Jacksonville and Pensacola, as reported by The Miami Herald. The National Weather Service has advised folks in these frost-nipping zones to cover the outside plants and ensure pets have a warm spot indoors. In contrast, the Florida Keys are expected to escape the colder temps with lows sitting comfortably in the low to upper-60s, as posted on their X account.

On the quirky side of weather effects, it looks like the iguana population can breathe a sigh of relief. Since temperatures in South Florida aren't expected to hit the critical 40s mark, these cold-blooded reptiles won't be succumbing to their infamous freeze-induced tumbles from trees. But keep a lookout, as these critters can still be slow-moving when it's chilly outside.
As the weekend approaches, Art Week attendees can look forward to a gradual warm-up. "Early Friday morning won’t be as cold as Thursday, with lows around the mid-60s. Highs later that day are expected to reach the upper 70s," as the Miami Herald pointed out. Saturday could see partly cloudy skies and highs near 80, while Sunday might bring some rain and put an end to the dry conditions, with temperatures creeping back up into the lower 80s.
