Early Thursday morning, a raging inferno engulfed a house in Miramar, but all occupants, including a family of up to ten people and their cat, managed to escape harm. The fire, which broke out around 3 a.m. at a home on the 7200 block of Ramona Street, was reported to Miramar Fire Rescue units, who arrived on the scene to confront the heavy flames tearing through the rear of the residence.
Miramar Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Fermin Ortea told WSVN,“[Crews] were able to quickly advance a hose line into the structure and they were able to extinguish a fire rather quickly,” also noting that everyone was outside the building upon their arrival.
While the source of the fire remains to be determined, officials believe it started outside of the house before spreading inside; it originated from an external structure connected to the residence as per NBC Miami reports. The American Red Cross has stepped in to support the displaced family, who currently cannot return to their home until it is declared safe by authorities.
The damage to the house is extensive, but the structure is not a total loss. One of the family’s daughters, who chose not to give her name, told WSVN, “I think they have to be out of the house for a couple of days, so we’re just trying to figure out what’s gonna happen next,”
Fire crews remained on site into the morning investigating the cause, which Battalion Chief Ortea suggested could be electrical, according to a statement obtained by WSVN.
No injuries were reported.
