In Exeter, New Hampshire, a driver, donned in a "full Grinch costume," lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a local performing arts venue. 31-year-old Jon C. Williamson was behind the wheel when his silver Honda CRV veered off the road at around 5:50 p.m., hitting The Word Barn's sign, mailbox, and walkway lights along Newfields Road, according to CBS Boston News.
The unintentional antics of Williamson, who emerged unscathed, prompted an unexpected update from the police."This was certainly a unique situation. Officers never expected to arrive at the scene to find that an operator was wearing a Grinch suit behind the wheel, but it was Christmas night so not entirely outside the realm of possibility. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt," said Exeter Police Chief Stephan Poulin in a statement obtained by NBC Boston. With no injuries reported, Williamson was nonetheless taken to the hospital as a precaution following the mishap.
Even The Word Barn reacted with a blend of shock and humor to the incident. On Facebook, they posted, "Imagine our surprise when we raced outside to assist and found... the Grinch!?!", as shared by Boston.com.
While the investigation into the cause of the crash continues, the images were shared by the venue. "The Wood Barn said they'll be without their new road sign and lights for a while, but they're glad everyone is OK" statement obtained by CBS Boston News.
The crash remains under scrutiny, and no charges have been announced.
