Basketball prodigy Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been embroiled in a controversy after Instagram model Paige Jordae alleged the NBA star paid her to terminate a pregnancy.
As the Timberwolves cruise to an impressive season start, with Edwards averaging notable stats, the forward finds himself playing defense off the court. Edwards, in a response published by CBS News Minnesota, addressed the controversy, saying, "I made comments in the heat of a moment that are not me, and that are not aligned with what I believe and who I want to be as a man," and considering he's averaging 24.2 points and 5.1 assists a game, it's clear this issue surfaces at a less-than-opportune time for both Edwards and the team.
The model, Jordae, posted images of their conversation, capturing the attention of her vast online audience, while showing evidence of a wire transfer for $100,000, which she claims was sent by Edwards—Sports Illustrated included the player's statement, where Edwards emphasized, "All women should be supported and empowered to make their own decisions about their bodies and what is best for them. I am handling my personal matters privately and will not be commenting on them any further at this time."
While Edwards seeks to manage the matter privately, his girlfriend Jeanine Robles recently shared news of her own pregnancy on Instagram, adding layers to the star's personal saga, and Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch stated, "I think it's important to state that it's not reflective of our organization, of our values, and as a young man, it's clear that the education and maturity of Anthony Edwards continue to be a work in progress," Finch told CBS News Minnesota, thus marking a fine line between personal matters and the values of the sports entity he represents.
