An off-duty Chicago police officer took to arms Sunday night in the Ashburn neighborhood, discharging a firearm during a brazen attempted carjacking.
The incident unfolded just before 11:00 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Sacramento Avenue, with the officer opting to quickly draw and fire shots to thwart the car thief. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, despite the gunfire, there were no injuries reported, and, as of now, no suspects have been placed in cuffs.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability has stepped in to conduct an investigation, as is standard when an officer fires a weapon in the City of Chicago.
More details on this matter have yet to unfold, leaving the public to only speculate about the identities and motives of those involved. What we do know, as noted by CBS Chicago, is that the incident did not result in any physical harm, somewhat of a rarity in such high-tension encounters. The absence of arrests further adds to the uncertainty and suspense gripping the community as they wait for law enforcement to track down the individual or individuals behind the attempted carjacking.
