The LAPD Ice Hockey Team, together with famed Olympic figure skater Tai Babilonia and the LA Kings Ice Crew, hosted a special skating session for about 20 children from the Union Rescue Mission. The event was held at the LA Kings Holiday Ice at L.A. LIVE on Wednesday morning.
The kids were given the opportunity to learn how to skate from some of the best. According to a statement obtained by the LAPD Newsroom, this initiative not only provides a rare pleasure for these children but also aims to "undoubtedly give these kids hope, inspiration and continue to foster a great relationship with the officers who are dedicated to protecting them."
Deputy Marc Reina of the LAPD Training Bureau and members of the LA Kings Ice Crew were on the scene from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the downtown LA venue, located at 800 West Olympic Boulevard.
"Angelinos may not be aware that there are many children who are experiencing homelessness or who are impacted by homeless-related issues," says a passage from the LAPD event description, underlining the day's significance.
