A somber Christmas turned tragic on I-91 in Middletown, Connecticut, as a car crash claimed the life of one and left two others injured. According to WWLP, the incident occurred Monday morning when two vehicles collided near Exit 20 at about 9:00 a.m., causing one to roll over.
The unfortunate event resulted in the death of 74-year-old Verona Facey of Brooklyn, New York, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved. As detailed by The Courant, the crash unfolded when a Toyota Corolla, driven by a 19-year-old male from Brooklyn, veered into the center lane from the right, striking a Chrysler 300. Following the collision, both vehicles rolled over into the grassy median.
State police report that the Chrysler's 53-year-old male driver from Worcester, Massachusetts, claimed no injuries and refused medical evaluation at the scene. The young driver of the Toyota was transported to Hartford Hospital with suspected minor injuries. A second passenger in the Toyota, a 57-year-old woman also from Brooklyn, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the same hospital for treatment.
The accident remains under active investigation by the Connecticut State Police. The right rear passenger, identified as 74-year-old Verona Facey of Brooklyn, New York, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the authorities' statement obtained by The Courant. Amid the ongoing inquiries, the names of the injured parties have not been released.
