Following an extensive 18-month investigation dubbed Operation 'Big Boi', authorities in Boynton Beach have clamped down on a major drug trafficking ring.

The collaborative force, comprising the Boynton Beach Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, has netted 16 arrests with indications that more may soon follow.

According to a report by WPTV, the operation involved substantial investigative work resulting in the confiscation of a trove of illicit substances, which included approximately 44 pounds of deadly fentanyl and cocaine, as well as 20 firearms and eight vehicles—a substantial haul that displays the grave threat posed by the drug trade in these communities.

Boynton Beach Police Chief Joseph DeGiulio lauded the effort, saying "Our collaboration with law enforcement partners has resulted in a milestone in our fight against drug-related crimes," and that "Removing these dangerous drugs from our streets ensures a safer community," these remarks were detailed in a WPTV article.

Vice Mayor Thomas Turkin witnessed some of the arrests and expressed his alarm to WPTV, saying, "Let me tell you, 44 pounds, that could kill millions and millions of people,"

Funding for the operation stemmed from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement through the SAFE grant, ensuring the necessary resources were available to tackle this pervasive issue.

The names of those arrested remain undisclosed as the procedure moves forward, as WPTV reported.
