In a recent event aimed at reducing violence and providing aid to the community, over 450 Miami households received much-needed groceries. According to a press release by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida, the free food distribution event took place on November 28 at Franklin Park, where residents drove through to collect their share.
Broward Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces, Broward Sheriff's Office, Farm Share Inc., and the local Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) collaborated to provide the assistance. Families left with bags of chicken, produce, canned goods, orange juice, and walnuts, totaling over 40 pounds of sustenance per household, are now better equipped to face their daily battles with hunger and nutrition.
Generosity spilled from the hands of volunteers who oversaw the food distribution. Staff members Keisha Bazile, Darcey Lindsley, Audrey Charles, John Hampton, Jorge Lorente, Mark McKinney, Michael Martinez, Robin McCowen, Corey Mackay, and Todd Goodman from the Law Enforcement Coordination/Community Outreach Section were among those instrumental in the effort. Moreover, volunteers from the United States Probation Office stepped in to lend their support to the cause.
