A tragedy unfurled earlier this month in a Wheeling crash that claimed the life of a beloved local teacher. Guillermo Salgado, a 28-year-old Palatine resident, faces charges of reckless homicide and aggravated DUI, as reported by CBS Chicago. On December 10, Salgado's vehicle collided head-on with the car of 53-year-old Robert Gillen, who taught math and served as head athletic trainer at Wauconda High School.
The devastating incident occurred when, according to police accounts, Salgado's Toyota Camry headed east on Palatine Road, but in the wrong westbound lane, resulting in the fatal collision. Gillen, a resident of Palatine, was fatally injured in the crash that also saw another individual sustain serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Salgado, released with conditions including electronic monitoring and home confinement, is due in court on January 26 as Patch.com outlined.
