Residents of Palm Beach County looking to get a grip on disaster preparedness might want to mark their calendars, as the Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) Working Group is set to hold a general meeting to sharpen their game plan against nature's worst. This public assembly, scheduled for Wednesday, December 13, is all about getting the county's ducks in a row when it comes to staying several steps ahead of natural, technological, and human-made disasters, according to the county's official announcement.
The working group, a collective of public and private sector players, is convening from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Center. On the docket for discussion is the prioritized Project List (PPL), a critical element in the county’s strategy to keep its citizens safe from whatever curveballs mother nature and other unpredictable forces might throw their way, a presentation that Senior Management Analysts from the Florida Department of Emergency Management’s (FDEM) Mitigation Bureau will bring to the table.
The Palm Beach County Public Safety Department’s Division of Emergency Management takes the lead in organizing the LMS Working Group; they're the brains behind preparing and promoting local strategies to lessen long-term risks to life and property. Their efforts align with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, and these strategies are bolstered by a mix of state and federal programs and funding sources, aimed at helping communities bounce back faster after disasters strike.
