In a hectic chase at the Coliseum Station parking lot, BART police nabbed a suspect and rescued a litter of puppies trapped inside a stolen car, local authorities reported.
The case unfolded when officers, teaming up with the Alameda County Regional Auto Theft Task Force, identified a vehicle reported stolen from Fremont, with 28-year-old Courtney Taylor of Oakland behind the wheel, during their concerted crackdown on vehicle thefts. Officers made their move, but Taylor hit the gas, and a pursuit ensued, with a dog escaping the moving car before Taylor eventually pulled over, as per Bay Area Rapid Transit Police Department.
Oakland's police force apprehended Taylor and found several puppies inside the recovered vehicle—the young canines were promptly cared for and dispatched to Oakland Animal Control for their protection and well-being. In what ended as a dramatic series of events, the police, in their due diligence, searched but were unable to locate the escaped adult dog.
Following the chase, Taylor was charged with a slew of felony and misdemeanor crimes and was booked at Santa Rita Jail, with the BART PD noting that this successful operation serves as a testament to the force's dedication to curbing vehicle-related offenses and protecting the community.
