In a late-night mishap, a pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a car at a Santa Rosa intersection. The collision between a silver BMW and the pedestrian occurred yesterday, according to a statement from the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD).
Emergency responders were called to the scene at Sebastopol Road and Dutton Avenue at around 11:08pm following reports that a pedestrian lay unconscious in a northbound lane. The victim, whose name has not been released, was swiftly transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers, damaged found the BMW, but with the driver waiting by the roadside, who cooperated with the subsequent police investigation.
Despite the severity of the crash, initial reports suggest that neither speed nor intoxicants were contributing factors, and it appeared that the BMW had the green light at the time of the incident, as mentioned in a police statement. It remains unclear if the pedestrian was within the crosswalk when struck. SRPD's Accident Investigators have taken over the ongoing investigation to unravel the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
The SRPD is urging witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward and has provided contact details for Officer John Fisher to facilitate this process. The case was filed under the number 23-16296.
