
A store clerk in Pembroke Pines was rushed to the hospital Tuesday after being shot by a minor during an attempted robbery gone violent, authorities said. The incident happened at the Pasadena Drive Thru Food Store located at 8100 Pasadena Boulevard, where, according to a CBS12 report, the suspect opened fire on the victim after an unsuccessful heist.
The victim, described only as an adult male in his late 30s, was attempting to escape when the young suspect shot him several times and while the clerk was able to call 911 the juvenile fled the scene right after, as per the Pembroke Pines Police Department. Pembroke Pines Police responded to the emergency call at approximately 5:39 p.m. and found the victim with multiple injuries that were thankfully not life-threatening; he was then taken to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment, the 7News mentioned an individual identified as John Oonnoonny, owner of Pasadena Drive Thru Food store, expressing his concern for the employee: “I hope he’s OK.”
The juvenile suspect, whose identity has not been released due to the ongoing investigation, is facing charges of attempted homicide, confirmed Pembroke Pines Police Officer Adam Feiner in an interview with 7News, stating "What I can tell you is that the subject is facing the charge of attempted homicide and is currently in custody." Police swiftly apprehended the minor, who was still in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest, bringing a swift end to this shocking afternoon disruption.
Meanwhile, John Oonnoonny recounted to 7News the moment he received the harrowing call from his employee, "He called about 5:40 saying he got shot, and he’s running to an apartment there and he has two bullets, and I said, ‘Call 911,'" also expressing his shock that the violent act occurred at his establishment. Authorities assure the community there are no more suspects at large and no further safety concerns, as the investigation continues.
