A Boston street brawl went south fast on Friday when a detail officer attempting to break up the melee was blindsided with pepper spray to the face—unleashing a wild scuffle that ended with two Dorchester residents in cuffs, as reported by the Boston Police Department.
According to the department's statement, the chaos unfolded at about 11:18 AM in the area of Washington Street and Talbot Avenue. It started with two women throwing punches in the street, but when an officer working nearby stepped in to separate them, another brawl broke out. One woman, in a stunning turn of aggression, spun around and sprayed the officer with pepper spray before trying to flee the scene.
The pepper-sprayed officer, despite being temporarily blinded, managed to provide descriptions, which led to the quick interception of the getaway vehicle by supporting officers. The prime suspect was subdued after a bout of resistance, and an accomplice inside the vehicle also got frisky with the cops trying to book her, escalating the roadside ruckus.
Skyla Malave, an 18-year-old from Dorchester, was promptly arrested and now faces multiple charges, including "Assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and resisting arrest. Her accomplice, 40-year-old Priscilla Malave, was caught in the act of assaulting multiple officers and, subsequently, after a struggle, was cuffed and slapped with charges of "Assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest," according to the police report.
The familial duo is scheduled for a court showdown at Dorchester District Court, where they will answer for the explosive event that left public safety in their wake and a law enforcement officer in harm's way.
