Two suspects in a black Cadillac were spotted tailing an Amazon delivery truck, leading to a botched auto theft and a violent confrontation with police. According to a statement released by the Piedmont Police Department, the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 4:45 p.m. Officers responded to a call from a vigilant resident about the suspicious vehicle on Kingston Ave.
The suspects, upon being approached by the police, attempted to take off in the Cadillac, striking another vehicle in their escape attempt and subsequently crashing into a police cruiser on Piedmont Ave. The pursuit may have been swift, but it was no less dangerous for the residential community and the officers involved. Both suspects were eventually detained after their vehicles came to a halt.
The passenger, a woman, admitted to carrying a loaded handgun in her waistband. A search of the Cadillac turned up more than just evidence of a failed theft as officers discovered burglary tools and drug paraphernalia, items that suggested a spree of criminal intent. The Piedmont Police Department confirmed that the two individuals were arrested on several charges, including attempted auto theft, resisting arrest, possession of a loaded weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
With the culprits now booked at Santa Rita Jail, the Piedmont Police took to social media to commend the alert resident who reported the suspects, stating, "Another illegal gun was taken off the street!"
