A typical evening took a dangerous turn when a drunken teenage joyride ended with a crash into the Cheshire State Police barracks on Saturday. The 17-year-old girl from Pittsfield lost control of her 2000 Nissan Altima around 6:22 PM, barreling through the structure's brick exterior and wreaking havoc in the kitchen area, the Massachusetts State Police reported on Facebook.
The driver and her passenger, both 17-year-old girls from Pittsfield, were taken to Berkshire Medical Center. They were checked for potential minor injuries stemming from the ordeal. Post-evaluation, the driver was shuttled back to the barracks, where she was slammed with charges including Operating Under the Influence of Liquor; Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle; Speeding, and Marked Lanes Violation, according to the same Facebook post.
Emerging unscathed from the incident were the state troopers inside the barracks at the time of the collision. The State Police Facilities Section along with a contractor responded quickly, patching up the damages well enough to allow continued operations in the building. However, the barracks require additional repairs to fully mend the scars left by the accident.
As for the teenager behind the wheel, the aftermath of her reckless endeavor comes with a legal reckoning. She was released on a standard $40 bail fee and is due for an arraignment in Pittsfield District Court this Tuesday, the Massachusetts State Police indicated.
