Flames engulfed a South Miami-Dade duplex early Saturday, leaving several makeshift homes in ruins and residents without shelter. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to the blaze at SW 62 Avenue and SW 64th Street at around 5:45 a.m., as reported by NBC Miami. Firefighters arrived at a scene of heavy smoke billowing from a one-story building that had been sectioned off into numerous efficiencies.
The fire, which took some time to control, was battled by the firefighters who managed to prevent any injury to themselves or the building's occupants, the property itself was deemed uninhabitable in the aftermath, and while they were able to contain extinguish the fire the impact was already done, leaving residents to grapple with the sudden loss of their abode - there were no injuries reported among the residents or the firefighting team according to Local 10.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and authorities have yet to determine what sparked the destructive inferno.
