Get ready for a bit of a squeeze, Coral Springs commuters—major bridge rehab is on the horizon for Riverside Drive Bridge. According to Broward County's announcement, starting December 18, the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division will begin their work on the bridge which spans the West Outfall Drainage Canal. Expected to wrap up in June 2024, they're promising minimal disruptions with a unique underside-focused repair technique. A glimpse of the innovative repair method can be taken here.
The Florida Department of Transportation has recommended the repairs that are said to extend the bridge's life, a necessity funded by the region's gas tax. The project will still allow people to use at least one lane in each direction while construction is underway. And until schools close for winter break on December 23, the bridge sidewalk will remain open for students and pedestrians. For a less than one-month period, however, be prepared for some lane closures—necessary for waterproofing and re-decking the bridge to keep it safe for years to come.
Business access won't be cut off during the construction. Whether you're headed to work, home, or the local coffee shop, your pavement will stay clear.
