Firefighters in Rohnert Park were quick to hastily respond to a condominium fire on December 21, which threatened to put a damper on the holiday spirit for several local families. The blaze, which broke out shortly after 2:30 PM at a residence on 400 Enterprise Drive, was battled by first responders who arrived within minutes to find flames emanating from a second-story balcony and quickly spreading through the attic.
Despite the challenging conditions, the firefighters managed to aggressively enter through the front door and begin to tackle the blaze by tearing down sheetrock to access the spreading fire in the common attic. Thanks to their swift actions, a potential catastrophe was averted, with a preliminary estimate of damages hovering around $100,000, as reported by the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.
The fire was contained within an impressive 20-minute timeframe, and emergency crews were able to save nearly all the Christmas gifts placed under a tree in the primary unit for two young children. This act of quick thinking ensured that the festive season was preserved for these families despite the harrowing circumstances.
According to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, teamwork and a coordinated effort among various fire departments – including Rancho Adobe Fire Protection District, Sonoma County Fire District, Petaluma Fire Department, and the Sebastopol Fire Department – was instrumental in rapidly getting control over the situation. The department also highlighted the importance of fire safety during the holiday season, urging residents to be vigilant about potential hazards.
Two of the eight units were declared uninhabitable due to significant damage, and the American Red Cross stepped in to assist the displaced families. While the fire appears to have been accidental, ignited by hot ashes left on a balcony, it serves as a timely reminder for the community of the importance of fire safety precautions.
