Heavy rain and strong winds had been pummeling the Boston area throughout the night, potentially contributing to the incident. Moving into the area late Sunday, it wasn't clear if weather was the cause of the wreck, as reported by NBC Boston. The crash led to the closure of two left lanes, though there was no immediate word on any resulting injuries.
Authorities have not released additional details about the driver’s condition or any potential cargo complications following the rollover. The fallout from the crash saw the usual flow of traffic come to a slow crawl, with commuters advised to seek alternative routes where possible.
Down the same interstate on Sunday night, yet unrelated to the earlier rollover, a wrong-way driver caused another serious incident. This separate crash reportedly occurred on I-90 westbound at Exit 135, as also stated by the MassDOT, which resulted in injuries and the closure of the right lane. Motorists were warned of delays as crews worked to clear the roadway.
Officials have yet to provide updates on either incident concerning the extent of injuries or the identity of those involved. Investigations into both crashes are ongoing as authorities work to piece together the circumstances that led to each. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is urging drivers to stay vigilant and exercise caution, especially when inclement weather conditions make for treacherous driving situations.
