The Round Rock Police Department is deploying its DWI Unit on Dec. 30 and Dec. 31 to high-traffic areas, keen on spotting and stopping intoxicated motorists, according to an announcement on the city’s website.
With holiday spirits running high, the Round Rock PD is taking these steps in a preventative stride. They are actively pressing for the public's cooperation, urging drivers to indulge in libations to make wise choices about their transit home. The strategy includes proposing alternatives such as appointing a sober driver, hailing ride-sharing services, or opting for public transit in a bid to prevent alcohol-related incidents on the roadways.
Chief Allen Banks emphasized community safety in a statement obtained by the city’s news release, “We want everyone to enjoy holiday celebrations responsibly. Driving under the influence puts not only the impaired driver, but also innocent lifes at risk. Our increased patrols send a clear message that we are committed to keeping our roads safe for everyone.”
