In an act of bravery that ended in tragedy, a Good Samaritan attempting to de-escalate a late-night squabble at a San Antonio shopping center was met with gunfire. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, around 2:00 a.m., when the 35-year-old man interjected himself into a confrontation between a man and a woman, only to become the target of a bullet to the abdomen, as reported by FOX San Antonio.
The altercation and subsequent shooting unfolded at the Bandera Festival Shopping Center, near the 7700 block of Guilbeau Road. Police said the Good Samaritan was actively trying to break apart the dispute when the male party pulled a gun and fired. According to KENS 5, the shooter, along with the woman from the altercation, fled the scene in a white SUV, leaving the would-be peacemaker bleeding on the pavement.
Authorities swiftly responded to the scene after receiving reports of the shooting. Upon their arrival, they found the victim wounded and quickly transported him to a local hospital in critical condition. The San Antonio Police Department's Homicide Unit, CSI, and NCID teams were dispatched to the Bandera Festival Shopping Center to gather evidence and begin their pursuit of the assailant.
As the man clings to life following surgery, SAPD is calling on the community's assistance, and the police department urges anyone with knowledge about the violent evening to step forward. The suspect remains at large.
Further details of the incident are scant as the police continue their investigation. San Antonio police have not yet released a description of the suspect, other than the vehicle described as a white SUV.
