San Antonio's community gathered in a somber candlelight vigil to remember 45-year-old Steven Allen Lopez, the latest man to fall victim to police gunfire last week, as reported by FOX San Antonio

Lopez's fatal encounter with law enforcement unfolded in the early hours of Monday when he allegedly brandished a handgun at officers during a foot chase sparked by a traffic stop, and in the frantic culmination of what should have been a routine procedure, he was shot several times by police, according to the Express-News. The deceased, identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, was pronounced dead at the scene in a West Side parking lot, becoming the 13th person this year to die at the hands of San Antonio police.

Officers Joshua Barbosa and Jonathan Delgado, with four years of experience each, have been reassigned to administrative duties following the shooting incident. A procedural limbo as the San Antonio Police Department probes both criminally and administratively into the matter. Police Chief William McManus conveyed that the body camera footage has yet to be reviewed.

The other individual present at the traffic stop—a yet-to-be-identified driver who fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle blocks away—remains at large.

San Antonio Police Department is investigating the incident.
