A brazen group of youths turned the streets of San Antonio into a crime scene, with a 14-year-old boy now detained after an audacious armed robbery Saturday night. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) detailed the incident, where suspects allegedly held up a 16-year-old boy at gunpoint, pilfering his cellphone and jacket, before embarking on a frenetic escape that ended with a high-flying helicopter chase.
Officers were summoned to the 4600 block of East Loop 1604 North around 11:30 p.m. on receiving the distressing robbery report. Officials said the victim's cell was tracked, leading to a hot pursuit of the suspect's vehicle, which, in a defiant act, didn't stop for law enforcement before being abandoned at an apartment complex in the 12900 block of Oak Terrace in Live Oak, according to KSAT.
As the infrared eye of SAPD's EAGLE helicopter monitored from above, police navigated a sprawling search on the ground. Their efforts yielded the apprehension of only one suspect, a young teen, while his cohorts vanished into the night. Although the adolescent culprit's identity remains shielded due to his juvenile status, the consequences of a night steeped in adult crime hang over him.
An extensive manhunt within the apartment complex ensued, but the slippery suspects had disappeared, leaving no trace for SAPD to follow, as per Express News reports. Miraculously, amid the chaos, no injuries were reported, although the mental scars on the young victim may run deep.
The investigation is fervently unfolding, with SAPD piecing together the night's events as they hunt for the remaining fugitives.
