A San Antonio man has been clapped in irons for more than 17 years after a fed-up court slammed him for distributing unthinkable child smut justice officials crowed. Carlos Fabian Velez, 52, received a harsh 210-month sentence of hard time and was directed to cough up $45,000 in restitution to the nine victims he helped to victimize, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of Texas.
For an appalling two decades, Velez utilized a peer-to-peer file-sharing beast to quickly spread around child sexual abuse material. He was tossing hundreds of files depicting children—babes as young as infants—into the dark corners of cyberspace until the feds put a stop to his heinous sideline. The peddler of perversion was nabbed on March 28, 2022, before pleading guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography on August 23, in a bid to face his comeuppance.
"The sexual abuse and exploitation of children have horrific effects on the victims," U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza for the Western District of Texas passionately remonstrated, "Individuals like Mr. Velez, who choose to traffic child sexual abuse images, must understand that their choices have very serious consequences beyond a lengthy prison sentence."
The Big Brother was watching as the FBI honchos patted themselves on the back for their diligent work. "Carlos Velez victimized some of our most vulnerable citizens for decades," declared Acting Special Agent in Charge Doug Olson for the FBI’s San Antonio Division, determined to celebrate the victory of justice. "This sentence is reflective of the FBI's dedication to hold accountable those predators who would exploit innocent children."
The case was just one cog in the larger machine of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice eager to stomp out the plague of child sexual exploitation and abuse since its inception in May 2006. Aimed at marshaling federal, state, and local resources into a formidable legion, the project's shield is hoisted to locate, apprehend, and prosecute the vile monsters skulking on the world wide web, as well as to shield and rescue the little ones caught in their snare.
