San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) officers chased down and arrested a man following an armed robbery late last week. According to the SFPD's official statement, the incident occurred on December 21 around 11:00 p.m., when officers from the Tenderloin Station responded to a call from a business on the 200 block of Ellis Street.

Upon arrival, they spotted a male suspect, who was seen running from the location, and a foot chase ensued. Running from the scene, the officers tried to detain the suspect, leading to a brief struggle, during which they seized a loaded firearm from the suspect's body. A hostile crowd compounded the chaos, surrounding the officers and the suspect, prompting the police to move the suspect to a secure location.

Through the investigation, officers found that the suspect had donned a balaclava, vaulted the counter, and waved a firearm to intimidate those present before fleeing with stolen cash. A female suspect was also detained after she interfered with the investigation and assaulted officers – spitting on them as they attempted to arrest her.

Charges were pressed against 34-year-old Marcus Khalant Ervin of Antioch and 46-year-old Hailia Hayes of San Francisco, both playing their part in the crime. Ervin is facing multiple charges, including robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Hayes is charged with battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, the SFPD released in a statement. As the investigation remains live, SFPD encourages anyone with information to come forward.

While the suspects are now in custody, the SFPD declared that the cases remain open and active. They are calling for anyone with any relevant information to reach out via phone at 1-415-575-4444 or through a text tip to TIP411 with the message starting with SFPD. Tips can be made anonymously, ensuring the safety of those who decide to help the authorities in these ongoing investigations.
