The San Jose Police Department is currently probing the city's 33rd homicide this year following a deadly shooting incident that took place early Sunday morning. In a statement released by the SJPD, officers responded to a call about gunfire at the intersection of Snow Drive and Giusti Drive at approximately 4:19 AM on December 17.
Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered evidence of the shooting. Shortly afterwards, two adult male victims, each suffering from at least one gunshot wound, made their way to a local hospital. One victim's battle ended there; he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, making the incident the latest in a string of violent deaths the community has grappled with. The second victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is reported to be stabilized. The police narrative on the unfolding events makes an all-too-familiar refrain in the city's ongoing struggle against gun violence.
The investigation into the circumstances and motive behind the shooting is ongoing. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after confirming his identity and notifying his family. Detective Sergeant Martinez and Detective Montoya of the Homicide Unit led the inquiry and have appealed to the public for relevant information.
Members of the community with knowledge of the incident are encouraged to reach out to the detectives via email or phone, with the option to remain anonymous through the P3TIPS mobile app or the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers tip line. There is an incentive for those whose information leads to an arrest, with the promise of a cash reward from the Crime Stoppers Program, a resource hoping to rally community involvement in the crucial task of local lawkeeping.
Sergeant Garibay and Lieutenant Miri, cited in the SJPD statement, stand as public faces in an ongoing mission to safeguard the community and deliver justice where it has been so forcefully interrupted.
