San Marcos residents can gear up for some good news as the Via Vera Cruz is set to reopen for public use on December 18, as announced by the city's government. A dedication ceremony for the newly minted Pia Harris-Ebert Bridge, in honor of the former City Councilmember, was celebrated yesterday with city officials and family members. The completion of the bridge marks a significant milestone for the community, which has eagerly awaited its reopening.
The festive occasion echoed the sentiment of both gratitude and accomplishment, bringing together former and current Council Members who have played their roles in the bridge's journey to fruition. The San Marcos Creek team facilitated this homage to one of the city's transformative figures, Pia Harris-Ebert, who had served on the San Marcos City Council for 24 years and was a driving force in establishing the city’s Redevelopment Agency, which has been pivotal in funding local improvements such as San Marcos Creek project.
According to the City of San Marcos - Government Facebook page, the reopening of the Via Vera Cruz and the bridge has been highly anticipated, and barring any weather setbacks, both should be accessible in the coming week. Additionally, Discovery Street is also expected to resume normal traffic flow before year's end, further easing local transportation woes.
For locals wanting to capture a glimpse of the recent progress made on the creek's construction or to relive moments from the dedication event, they can head to the City’s website for a video.
