A San Rafael man's attempt to meet a minor for sexual purposes was thwarted by Marin County Sheriff's Office detectives, resulting in his arrest earlier this month. Manuel Ajualip Ramirez, 31, was taken into custody on several charges, including trying to arrange a sexual encounter with a minor, annoying a child under 18, and resisting arrest, authorities said.
The investigation started when a 13-year-old student reported unwanted online advances to their teacher. This information was subsequently passed on to School Resource Officer Devon Gasparini, who, through his probing, found that Ramirez had used WhatsApp to connect with the teen and solicit explicit pictures to ultimately meet for sex. In an alert by the Marin County Sheriff's Office, details of the case were made public.
The sting unfolded as MCSO undercover detectives from the Specialized Investigative Unit kept watch over the agreed meeting location. When Ramirez turned up, detectives identified themselves and attempted to place him under arrest. However, Ramirez attempted to escape on foot, leading to a brief chase before detectives apprehended him. Despite his violent resistance, Ramirez was arrested without injury to himself or the law enforcement officers involved. According to the Marin Sheriff's Office, the suspect is now facing serious legal repercussions for his actions.
