The City of Santa Clarita is inviting the boldest to "take the plunge" into 45-degree water during the 12th annual Polar Plunge event held on January 6 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. according to the city's official blog post.
Kaiser Permanente is ensuring the first 75 participants quickly grab a free beach towel, perhaps to snap themselves warm again. To add some post-dip comforts, the organizers are promising hot chocolate, coffee, and donuts to help thaw out the brave souls. Those who join the frosty fray also get to add their names to the prestigious Polar Bear Club members list, which the city boasts as one of their "most unique recreational events."
The event is also aimed at supporting a good cause as participants are being asked to bring a non-perishable food item, all of which will be donated to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry, bringing a little warmth to those in need.
Signing up is free but interested participants are encouraged to quickly register ahead. For those looking to make a splash in the new year, visit SantaClarita.gov/Seasons to register, or call the Aquatic Center at (661) 250-3740 for more details.
