In a tragic turn of events, Santa Rosa has recorded its 10th homicide this year following a deadly shooting on Wednesday morning. According to a news release by the Santa Rosa Police Department, an 18-year-old local resident, Troy Henry, shot a 34-year-old man during a heated altercation in an apartment on Yulupa Avenue.
The confrontation occurred at around 8:30 a.m., and soon after, police received a 911 call from Henry claiming responsibility for the shooting. Upon arrival, officers found him unarmed and cooperative. Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders, the victim, who was a visitor at the apartment and did not reside there, succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. His identity remains undisclosed, pending notification of next of kin.
Evidence collected by detectives at the scene revealed the firearm used in the crime was illegally modified with a Glock “switch," a device that transformed the handgun into a fully automatic machine gun. The discovery adds a grim layer to what Santa Rosa Police Department indicates as a sudden escalation from argument to physical conflict, and ultimately, gunfire.
Henry, who lived in the apartment with another resident, is now facing multiple charges including murder and possession of a machine gun, according to the Santa Rosa Police. The investigation is ongoing as detectives continue their search for additional witnesses, urging those with any information to step forward via the department's online Tip Line.
